Hi there everyone!
I know I am meaning to get more of these up and online but I simply have no idea what to "blog", "vlog" or review! I guess I could just simply go through all my equipment one piece at a time and do it that way. But where is the fun in that...most everyone out there in the game right now knows the lens they like, want, have or need. But I think in the interest of getting more SEO and site traffic I am going to play the game the way it is meant to be played.
So as to the subject of today...My newest pieces of gear. I have had a Godox PB960 for a couple months now and I find that true to their word they do indeed power speedlights much better than running them with either old school alkaline or rechargeable NiCad or Li-On AA size batteries. The recycle times drop like a stone. I went from recycles of 4-6 seconds on my flash to around a little less than a second (that would be on full 1/1 power folks) of course dropping those power levels down is going to net you an even faster recycle time. The major thing to remember when getting the recycle times down that low would be that you must be careful not to overheat the speedlights by popping them too much of the time. Most of the newer lights do have overheat protection but still keeping an eye on your pace of shooting and making sure not to overshoot them is a better way to keep your gear in good working order. So while I had one of the PB960's and I have 3 speedlights, this left me without a good power source on 2 of the lights. So after playing around with it for awhile and seeing good things I took the plunge and bought another 2 of them. The only thing I didn't much care for in the first one was that the cable to power the light only came in Canon and Nikon flavors. SO, what's a guy to do that has Phottix Mitros flashes? Well the Mitros do come with a nice adapter (depending on the version you get Canon or Nikon) mine were Canon so I was able to plug the cable into that and then plug the adapter into the Mitros. I was not a huge fan of adding another point of failure into the system though, so a little searching and I found that the cables that Phottix makes for their Indra light system can be used on the Mitros. With the end on the battery side of the cable being common I decided I would try a pair of those for my new batteries. Everything came in and I have put them on and used them and can confirm they work awesome. So now a simple cable from the PB960 to the Mitros and we are good to go!
I am hoping before the end of 2016 I will be able to afford a Phottix Indra 500/battery pack and can review that for my (by then, hopefully) many readers! I am looking at more of a one brand system for my off camera lighting. Since I am not super wealthy I cannot afford the Profoto B1's even though I hear from many people that they are insane on how great they are for lighting on the run. I would like to get at least 1-2 Indra's so that I have more power when I need it as well as being able to use a larger range of lighting modifiers with a Bowens mount on the Indra. Plus everything can be triggered and changed right from my camera with the Odin control unit I already have.
My initial experiences with the PB960's have been great and we will be putting them into the serious test with our next major shoot on April 9th. Time will tell if I have any of the reported problems with the issues of the packs dying without any notice. If I have problems with this in the future I will of course post something on here and let everyone know. Thanks for following along, I am thinking my next review will be about the MagMod system of speedlight modifiers.
